Tesla's new car models will use Intel chips

Despite its partnership with Nvidia, Tesla has begun switching to Intel's multimedia systems and automotive processors.

Nvidia is a partner of Tesla, providing infotainment and autopilot systems. However, there have been recent signs that Tesla is looking for a new supplier.

Specifically, Tesla's Model S and Model X models are using Tegra processors, audio control systems, and Nvidia instrument clusters. However, according to Bloomberg, the Model 3 and new versions will have multimedia chips manufactured by Intel.

In addition, in March of this year, Intel acquired Mobileye for $15 million. The technology company was a former partner of Tesla in its self-driving program. Last year, the relationship between the two companies ended. If Bloomberg’s information is correct, it would be a bit strange for Tesla and Mobileye (via Intel) to collaborate again.

It appears Tesla is starting to see Nvidia as more of a competitor than a partner in the race to produce autonomous vehicles.

In a separate move, Nvidia is signing contracts with multiple autonomous vehicle manufacturers, and Intel is doing the same. Nvidia, Intel, and Tesla have not yet made any official announcements on the above information.
