A series of consecutive events show that Southeast Asia is facing a period of high risk of terrorist attacks, becoming the second most dangerous region in the world after the Middle East.
Malaysia has a large Muslim population and, along with many Muslim countries in the world, has implemented a visa-free entry mechanism. This is making Kuala Lumpur a “transit station” and a “convergence and dispersion” place for radical Islamists.
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the US domestic intelligence agency discovered that some suspects had appeared in Kuala Lumpur. Moreover, after the rise of Islamic countries, many radical Islamic elements in Southeast Asia took the air route through Kuala Lumpur to fly to Türkiye, then infiltrated Syria. At the same time, some armed elements from other Islamic countries also took advantage of this route to infiltrate Malaysia, then from Malaysia to other countries. The Malaysian police force once arrested more than 40 armed members from other Islamic countries.
Malaysian intelligence agencies have discovered that there are currently four new Islamic extremist organizations established within Malaysia, including BKAW, ADI, BAJ and Dimzia. In addition, Malaysia has also become a “corridor” for Uyghurs from China’s Xinjiang region to illegally enter the country./.
