Gunmen in Libya on May 6 demanded the resignation of the current government as they surrounded the headquarters of the country's ministries, despite the Libyan parliament approving a new law banning senior officials from Muammar Gaddafi's era from joining the new government.

Having pledged to end the siege of the headquarters if the law was passed, rebel leader Osama Kaabar stressed: "We are determined to maintain our actions until Prime Minister Ali Zeidan resigns."

Earlier on May 5, the Libyan parliament, under pressure from rebel forces, voted to pass this controversial law, according to which Gaddafi-era officials must resign, in a move that may also see the departure of Prime Minister Zeidan./.
