Vocational schools should not worry about lack of enrollment
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, there has been a lot of information saying that: In the 2014 university and college entrance exam, the Ministry of Education and Training decided to remove the floor score, which will cause vocational schools to lack enrollment sources; because universities, especially non-public schools and lower-ranking schools, can freely lower their admission standards. The truth is not entirely like that.
At Point a, Clause 14, Article 1, Circular No. 06/2014/TT-BGDDT dated March 11, 2014 of the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates: "Schools shall base on the determined enrollment quota...; base on the statistics of scores...; base on the regulations on priority score framework and enrollment area; base on the criteria to ensure input quality prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Secretariat shall submit to the Admissions Council for consideration and decision on the admission score plan".
At Point b, Clause 14, Article 1 of Circular No. 06/2014/TT-BGDDT stipulates: "Based on the candidates' exam results, the Ministry of Education and Training will determine the criteria to ensure input quality for schools to consider admission to universities and colleges for each exam group and each training major".
At Point h, Clause 17, Article 1 of Circular No. 06/2014/TT-BGDDT stipulates: "Warning or higher disciplinary action against the Principal or Chairman of the Admissions Council and other related persons who violate one of the following errors: ...; determining the admission score does not meet the quality assurance criteria prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training; ...".
Thus, although the floor score has been removed, the Ministry of Education and Training has immediately put in place sanctions to ensure the quality of the 2014 admissions; schools cannot arbitrarily determine their admission scores while ignoring the quality assurance criteria set by the Ministry of Education and Training. In other words, vocational schools should not worry about a lack of students due to the removal of the floor score.
