Goby fish are being raised in some coastal areas across the country. However, during the commercial farming phase, some diseases such as hemorrhage and ulcers caused by Vibrio vulnificus bacteria appear in the fish, which can spread very quickly, easily cause epidemics and cause great damage to the commercial fish farming industry.
When sick, fish have symptoms: Ulcers on the body, tail, head, missing whiskers, red spots on the skin around the mouth and anus, on the dorsal and pectoral fins. The main treatment method up to now is to use antibiotics such as: Ciprofloxacin, Doxytocin, TMP-SMX (Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole).
Recently, scientists at Vinh University have researched the use of a mixture of ginger powder and garlic powder to treat ulcers in goby fish very effectively, with antibacterial effects, much cheaper than using antibiotics, saving costs, and at the same time ensuring food safety standards for the product.
How to do as follows:
- Processing ginger powder and garlic powder: Choose garlic and dried ginger, free of worms and mold, separate each small clove (garlic), peel/scrape the skin, wash with water, drain. After peeling the garlic, cut the ginger into thin slices and dry at 40-50oC, crush and sift to get fine garlic powder and ginger powder. The two types of powder are stored separately in sealed plastic bags at room temperature.
- Treatment: Use garlic powder (1 gram of garlic powder mixed with 1 ml of distilled water) mixed into fish food to treat diseases caused by Vibrio vulnificus bacteria. Use a mixture of garlic powder and ginger powder at a ratio of 12.5%/87.5% to replace antibiotics Ciprofloxacin, Doxytocin and TMP-SMX in treating diseases caused by Vibrio vulnificus bacteria in goby fish very effectively.
