Vegetables and fruits are indispensable in Vietnamese family meals, but not everyone knows how to choose clean vegetables and remove toxins.

As an agricultural country, Vietnam exports a large amount of vegetables to countries around the world, but paradoxically, our people are struggling with the battle to choose clean products. Currently, vegetable growers, for profit, have used many pesticides to water their vegetables. Chemical residues remaining in vegetables and fruits can cause acute poisoning. Recently, in some places, water used to water vegetables has been contaminated with bacteria, such as cholera, which causes acute diarrhea for people who eat raw vegetables and is a dangerous source of infection for the community.

In the program "Delicious and Healthy" (VTC 14), Mr. Thai Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of the Plant Protection Department of Ho Chi Minh City, said: "Recently, 85 establishments buying and selling plant protection drugs have been inspected, of which 4 establishments violated the rules of poor quality products, no business license, and expired products."

Vegetables and fruits are indispensable in Vietnamese family meals, but not everyone knows how to choose clean vegetables and remove pesticides. Housewives often tell each other that the more beautiful the vegetables, the more delicious they are, but this is a wrong inference. Although it is known that it is difficult to completely eliminate toxins in vegetables and fruits, with careful selection and preparation, following the correct process will help minimize the risk of infection.

Housewives note:

- You should not buy off-season vegetables and fruits, because the weather is unfavorable, insects develop a lot, vegetables and fruits are barren, vegetable growers have to use pesticides and stimulants to make vegetables grow quickly.

- Choose fruits and vegetables that are intact, not crushed, cracked, rotten, or moldy.

- Avoid buying pre-peeled, pre-cut, or pre-soaked vegetables and fruits at the market.

- You should buy vegetables from reputable companies that can check pesticide content.

- Wash vegetables under clean running water by: washing twice under running water and twice in a large basin of water, can remove 40% - 90% of chemicals.

- Water used to wash vegetables and fruits must be clean, not contaminated with chemicals, heavy metals or bacteria.

- Soaking vegetables in rice water for about 30 minutes, then rinsing several times under clean water also helps significantly reduce chemical residue on vegetables.

- Do not use any food with unusual color, strange smell, or food from places where people have been poisoned.

- Growing clean vegetables yourself helps growers control the origin of the food, which is clean, free of pesticides and growth stimulants./.
