How to know when to replace laptop battery
If you have tried everything but your laptop's battery life does not improve, it is a sign that it is time to replace the battery.
If you’ve tried all the tricks to extend your laptop’s battery life—like dimming the screen and closing apps—and it’s still not working, it might be time to replace your battery. Over time, your laptop’s battery capacity (the amount of energy it can store) will run out. Battery life will drop significantly. This is also true for tablet and smartphone batteries.
On Windows, the best way to tell if it's time to replace your laptop's battery is to look at the battery usage report to see if the battery is worn out. To do this, open the Command Prompt by right-clicking in the lower left corner of the screen and selecting "Command Prompt."

In Command Prompt, type powercfg/batteryreport and press enter. You will see a message informing you that a data file has been saved. This is the Battery Report file.
Go to the Users folder on your computer and find the Battery Report file that was just saved, double-click on it to open the file using a web browser.
There is a lot of information you can dig into this report, such as a history of how the battery capacity has changed over time, or an analysis of the last three charges. However, the most important information we need to pay attention to is the Design Capacity vs. Full Charge Capacity.

Design Capacity is the amount of energy your laptop has at the time of purchase. Full Charge Capacity is the battery capacity of the device at the current time. For example, a laptop will have a Design Capacity of 46030 mWh, and a Full Charge Capacity of 39030 mWh.
If the Full Charge Capacity of the device does not differ too much as in the example above, you do not need to worry too much. However, if the Full Charge Capacity is much lower than the Design Capacity, it means that the battery of the device is quite worn out, indicating that it is time for you to replace the battery to refresh your device.
