Dr. Le Thai Van Thanh, Skin Care Clinic, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, advises women to choosemakeup remover products that are suitable for your skin type. For example:
Dry skin
You have dry skin if when you look in the mirror you don't see any shiny areas on your face, your skin feels tight, maybe flaky, and you can blot with a soft tissue and see no trace left on the paper.
People with dry skin should use cream, liquid or tinted moisturizers. These are foundations that are formulated with oil (water-in-oil emulsion) or water (oil-in-water emulsion). Caring for dry skin requires following three basic steps:
- Wash your face with milk or gel that has little detergent, no fragrance, and few preservatives. If you use dermatological soap, choose one with a pH balanced with the skin's pH (from 4.5 to 6.5). You can add olive oil or almond oil.
- Firm your skin with rose water, especially around the eyes and lips. Always moisturize with rose water after each cleansing. Don't forget to apply a thin layer of Vaseline to your lips.
Oily skin
How to recognize oily skin: Look in the mirror and see that your entire face is shiny. Use a soft tissue to blot and you will see oil stains on the paper.
Oily skin should use powder, liquid, or compact foundation. This is an oil-free or water-based foundation with an oil-controlling agent. Choose a cleanser that contains sulfur or a dermatological soap. Apply a toner after each wash to remove excess oil and help tighten pores. You don't need to moisturize regularly unless your face feels tight after cleansing. Choose an oil-free moisturizer.
When removing makeup, use warm water to wash your face to help remove oil and cosmetics more easily without drying out your skin. Take a sufficient amount of cleanser in your palm to warm it up before applying it to your face. This action causes the pores to contract, thereby reducing the risk of contamination of the remaining product.
For oily skin with lots of acne, you can use a cleanser with grains to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. Use the tip of your index finger to gently dab the product on your forehead, nose, cheeks, upper lip, chin, and under your jaw. Massage in a spiral motion on both cheeks, around your eyes and mouth, from the bottom up on your forehead, sides, under your jaw, and neck. Wipe away impurities on your skin, gently wash your face with warm water, then pat dry with cotton, do not rub on your skin. Apply rose water evenly on your skin, avoiding dry areas. Finally, wipe your entire face with cotton soaked in warm water.
Acne skin
Acne-prone skin is often oily and pus-filled, especially in the T-zone of the face. When removing makeup, choose an oil-free cleanser with fewer than 10 active ingredients. Prioritize products that are colorless, odorless, and free of preservatives that cause allergies. You can use a dermatological soap that contains an oil-clearing agent such as sulfur or zinc, along with a keratolytic agent such as salicylic acid and an antibacterial agent.
After cleansing, use rose water, acne medication or acne treatment and gel moisturizer. Can be replaced with a solution that does not clog pores, does not create acne, does not interact with acne medications.
Note: During skin care, do not massage too much or too hard because it can cause acne to burst. Do not squeeze or cut acne on your own.
