How to drink water well in summer
The habit of drinking water according to preferences or needs can cause certain damage to human health. So how to drink water properly in hot weather?
Top drinks in summer
- Boiled water left to cool: Although the taste is bland because the dissolved gases in the water have evaporated during the boiling process, just shaking the water vigorously when it has cooled can fix it.
- Tea: Green tea in particular is popular because of its pleasant aroma, and is nutritious and thirst-quenching. Tea leaves contain a lot of tannins, caffeine, glucosides, a little essential oil, vitamins and minerals. The astringent taste of tannins in tea has a good effect on the digestive tract mucosa, inhibiting the putrefactive process, creating conditions for beneficial bacteria in the intestines to function.
Vitamin C in fresh tea leaves is 4 times more than orange juice or lemon juice. Vitamin P in green tea - flavonoids - has the effect of reducing capillary permeability, increasing the strength of blood vessels, keeping blood vessels soft. Tea also contains minerals including trace elements such as iron, iodine, copper, fluoride... in the form of easily soluble compounds, which are essential for the body.
- Fruit juice: Fruits rich in vitamin C, carotene and active substances, vitamin P, organic acids (such as citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid...) create the sour taste of the fruit, which has the effect of quenching thirst and stimulating the body to secrete digestive juices. The vitamin C content in oranges and lemons is quite high (40 mg%) and very stable. The amount of carotene in some fruits is also quite high. From the fruit, people can make syrups and carbonated soft drinks. Due to the inherent acidity and high sugar content, syrups also have the effect of quenching thirst and increasing energy.
The sour taste of the fruit has a thirst-quenching effect and stimulates the body to secrete digestive juices.
- Gotu kola: The amount of protein in gotu kola is equivalent to water spinach, the vitamin content is somewhat higher. The calories provided by gotu kola are also much higher than other vegetables (100g gives 21 calories). Gotu kola is still used as a medicine to nourish the liver, detoxify, diuretic, treat prickly heat... and quench thirst. Gotu kola should be washed and squeezed to get the juice to drink, which is best.
Drink water properly
- Drink warm water: Some people like to drink ice water although drinking too much cold water can cause digestive discomfort or cramps or even diarrhea. On the contrary, some people like to drink hot water. Drinking water that is too hot can damage the esophageal mucosa and stimulate mucosal proliferation, which can lead to esophageal cancer. Therefore, when drinking water, the water temperature should not be too hot or too cold. The most suitable temperature is 10 to 30 degrees Celsius.
- Drink water as slowly as possible: When feeling thirsty, many people always drink a full glass. However, they do not know that this way of drinking is not good for their health and can cause serious consequences for the body. Firstly, drinking a lot of water in a short time will quickly dilute the blood and increase the burden on the heart. This will be very dangerous if you have just exercised, run, done heavy work....
Second, on hot days, you sweat a lot, drinking too much water in a short time will increase sweating and increase the loss of electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. Therefore, you will feel more thirsty. Third, drinking too quickly can cause hiccups or bloating. The best way is to drink slowly and divide the amount of water you drink, it is effective in reducing thirst.
Drinking water slowly is good for your health.
- Each person needs a different amount of water: Most people know that they should drink about 8 glasses of water (equivalent to 2 liters) per day, the amount of water provides the body with enough moisture, cleans the intestines and stomach as well as helps promote blood circulation. However, that is only a general recommendation, the actual amount of water a person needs to drink depends a lot on factors such as weight, intensity of exercise, working environment, and of course the climate also has a significant impact on the body's water needs.
For a normal and healthy person, the amount of water that should be drunk can be determined by the color of urine. Normal urine color is yellow. Relatively dark urine color means that more water needs to be supplemented, and clear urine means that you drink too much. For patients, they should pay more attention to drinking water. For example, for a person with a fever, the body loses more water than usual. When having a fever, the body temperature is higher and the evaporation from the skin will also increase. Therefore, for these people, they need to drink more water appropriately.
On hot days when you have to go out, you should drink more water to compensate for the water lost through sweating. This not only helps you avoid dehydration but also prevents heat-related illnesses. If you sit in an air-conditioned room all day, both your body and your skin will be affected by dehydration, you need to drink more.
