(Baonghean.vn) - Sharing the geographical indication of Vinh orange, Bai Phu orange in Dinh Son commune (Anh Son) is a traditional crop with a long history. Bai Phu orange is not only known as a specialty in Western Nghe An but this agricultural product was also exported to the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in the 80s of the last century.
After a period of giving way to sugarcane and cassava, in recent years Bai Phu oranges have begun to be planted again by Dinh Son people and continue to affirm their unique quality.

Realizing the needs of the market and consumers, in recent years, people in Dinh Son commune have cleared out ineffective cassava and cassava growing areas and switched to investing in orange growing. |

The land of Dinh Son, the section bordering Yen Khe commune (Con Cuong) was formerly the location of Bai Phu Farm, famous for its quality oranges. Taking advantage of the strengths of natural conditions and soil, people have proactively improved the land and developed orange trees. |

Currently, in Dinh Son commune, there are more than 60 hectares of oranges with 106 households growing oranges. According to local planning, by 2020, over 200 hectares of Bai Phu oranges will be developed. |

Valencia and Van Du oranges are mainly grown here, with a yield of nearly 25 tons/ha. Dinh Son commune is proposing support from all levels to build the Bai Phu orange brand in the Vinh orange brand. |

What worries the orange growers in Bai Phu area is that many people are now taking advantage of the reputation of Bai Phu oranges and mixing them with other low-quality oranges to make a profit, affecting the reputation of Bai Phu oranges. Some people even hang signs saying "Bai Phu orange garden" even though they do not have any area for this crop. |
