Pity the diabetic mother raising a child with chronic kidney failure
(Baonghean.vn) - More than 5 years of struggling with the terrible disease of diabetes, combined with end-stage chronic kidney failure, has caused the family of Mrs. Phan Thi Hoai in Lien Giang hamlet, Lien Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district to fall into extreme poverty. The small, dilapidated house of Mrs. Phan Thi Hoai and her children has become gloomy and desolate these cold days.
Mrs. Phan Thi Hoai is over 60 this year, her austere life seems to make her look much older than her age of over 60. Her health is poor, every day she can do nothing but stay within 4 walls and take care of her son who is facing a terrible disease.

Even though she is suffering from a serious and incurable disease, every day, Mrs. Phan Thi Hoai still tries her best to create mental motivation to take care of her unfortunate son - who is in the prime of his youth but is suffering from end-stage chronic kidney failure. |
While massaging her poor son’s hands and feet and cleaning his body, she told him about her life like a movie. She said she was not lucky at birth, her parents were poor and could not get him a proper education.
When she grew up and married a man from the same village, life's hardships pushed her family into extreme poverty. Her husband was constantly sick and they gave birth to two children, but due to circumstances, both had to drop out of school to work far away to make a living.
The house where the mother and son are currently living was built with the love and care of the neighbors in 2001. Now it has deteriorated, and in many places the sky is clearly visible. In that house, there is not a single valuable item except for an old wooden cabinet that her son saved up to buy.
Life was hard but it seemed that God did not care and even took away her husband, her spiritual support when her children were away from home. Not stopping there, more than 5 years ago, suddenly feeling tired, her limbs limp, she thought she had a cold so she mostly went to the store to buy medicine to take, only when she was in pain, neighbors came to visit did she go to the doctor, holding the results and the doctor's conclusion that she had diabetes, her eyes were dark, she thought she was so poor, why did she have a "rich man's disease", she had to ask the doctor many times, finally accepting the huge shock.

The mother and daughter's level 4 house had to be built with the help of neighbors, but now it is degraded, the walls are cracked, the roof is leaky in many places. |
Since then, every month she has to go to the hospital for check-ups, check-ups, and medicine. No matter how much money her son sends home from his job, it is not enough to cover the expenses. Currently, her family is burdened with a debt of more than 10 million VND borrowed from relatives and neighbors for medical treatment for a long time but still cannot pay it back.
Since she got sick, she couldn't do anything, the small garden the villagers came to help grow vegetables to sell and have more food. The mother and son with two sao of contracted rice fields couldn't work and had to rent them out, each crop yielded a few bushels of rice. When mentioning her two children, she couldn't hold back her tears, then told that the older brother got married and went to work far away, the situation was also very difficult, the mother was sick but couldn't come back, when she called to ask about her siblings, the mother and son could only sit and cry.
As for the second son, Nguyen Nhu Duong, since his father got married far away, he has been the pillar of the family. He loves his mother very much. He works for hire in the South and sends all his earnings back to his mother for her treatment, but God has not been kind to him. For more than two months now, since he was diagnosed with end-stage chronic kidney failure, his spirit has been broken. His mother can only encourage him to love his mother and try his best in this difficult situation.

Faced with the difficult situation of Mrs. Phan Thi Hoai and her children, women in Lien Giang hamlet regularly visited, encouraged and helped Mrs. Hoai and her children with gardening, growing vegetables and then buying them back so that Mrs. Hoai could have more income and food for her family. |
This year, Nguyen Nhu Duong is 25 years old, but he looks older than his peers. Working early and having to worry about life has made him more mature and stronger. However, after only 2 months of getting sick, Nguyen Nhu Duong's body has become pale and his limbs are swollen because of the long dialysis period. He confided: Dialysis lasts for a long time, sometimes from afternoon to late at night. Many times, when I leave the room, I feel dizzy and lightheaded, but I have to force myself and try. A young man should have taken care of his old mother, but now he has become a burden, with no idea about the future.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh - a resident of Lien Giang hamlet, Lien Thanh commune, said: The situation of Hoai and her children is very difficult, the mother is already sick, now the child is seriously ill. The local people and neighbors have also helped but not much because everyone is poor. Hopefully, by sharing, the community will extend a helping hand, reduce the burden of life on the shoulders of the poor woman and Hoai and her children will have a few short days of peace.
Saying goodbye to Mrs. Hoai and her children and the kind neighbors of Lien Giang hamlet was also late afternoon, the sudden rain along with the cold changing weather, the image of two miserable sick people gradually disappearing in the dilapidated house made everyone feel sorry and sympathetic.!
