General Sok Phal, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, announced on July 21 that the decision to expand the immigration control apparatus to the district level is to facilitate immigration control activities at the grassroots level, instead of depending on a provincial unit as before.
The district immigration control agency will carry out the tasks of general inspection, screening, handling illegal immigrants and protecting the safety of foreigners in Cambodia.
Recently, Cambodia has stepped up its general inspection campaigns against migrant workers and illegal immigrants.
In the first 6 months of 2015, Cambodia detected and deported 1,200 illegal immigrants.
