(Baonghean.vn) Ve Vung Dam Lake, Yen Thanh District has a reserve of 27 thousand cubic meters, located on the administrative boundary of 3 communes Dong Thanh, Kim Thanh and Quang Thanh. In the middle of the lake, there are 5 small islands with a forest area of nearly 60 hectares, which have been handed over to the people in the surrounding area to plant, care for and protect. Many species of birds such as white storks, teals, herons, and mallards come to breed and live, turning this place into a diverse ecological community.

However, recently, the birds' lives have been threatened by "hunters". Every evening (around 5-6pm) when the birds fly back, people come to hunt birds. They go in large numbers, sometimes 20-30 people.

Based on the information provided by the people, Yen Thanh Forest Protection Department has conducted a survey, assessed the situation, reported the above situation to the Provincial Forest Protection Department and sent a recommendation letter to relevant levels and sectors in Yen Thanh district. Mr. Nguyen Trung Ky - Deputy Head of Yen Thanh District Forest Protection Department, said: With the consent of the Chairman of Yen Thanh District People's Committee, the District Forest Protection Department has sent Official Letter No. 28, dated November 1, 2011 to the Chairmen of the People's Committees of communes in the Ve Vung Dam area and other localities in the district on coordination in protecting forests and existing animal species. In the immediate future, the department will allocate funds to build a propaganda bulletin board at the entrance and exit of the dam.

In my opinion, Ve Vung dam is a typical ecological area, located in the special forest project of Yen Thanh district, with a rich and diverse vegetation system. If well preserved and protected, together with Gam forest, it will become an interesting tourist attraction, contributing to promoting socio-economic development in the area. Therefore, in addition to the solutions to strengthen protection by the authorities, more than anyone else, the people around the area also need to raise awareness of protecting and valuing the ecosystem, including the birds that live in the area.
