(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, due to prolonged rain, some locations on the Western beltway from Ta Ca commune to Muong Tip, Muong Ai, Na Ngoi, Nam Can communes (Ky Son district) and Luu Kien (Tuong Duong) have suffered serious landslides. There are many sections where cars cannot pass, and pedestrians and motorbikes have difficulty traveling through landslide areas.
The belt road connecting these communes is about 80 km long. This is a vital route that plays an extremely important role in national security and defense as well as in trade and economic development of the particularly disadvantaged communes of the mountainous district of Ky Son. In recent years, although the state has invested a large amount of capital to expand and repair sections at risk of landslides, due to the terrain of many steep mountains, streams and prolonged rains and floods, many newly constructed sections have collapsed and deteriorated. The cause of the landslides is determined to be due to the very weak ground here combined with prolonged rain seeping in. Especially in the two communes of Muong Tip and Muong Ai, there are sections of the road that are blocked and cannot be used.
The rainy season is now starting, and the possibility of further landslides is inevitable. It is thought that authorities at all levels need to take timely remedial measures and warn people and vehicles when traveling on this route.
