(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 28, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention held an online conference to review flood and storm prevention and search and rescue work in 2014 and deploy disaster prevention and control tasks in 2015.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control chaired the conference. At Nghe An bridge, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control chaired the conference. In 2014, there were 5 storms and 3 tropical depressions in the East Sea that directly affected our country, with about 170 tornadoes, hailstorms; 30 flash floods, landslides... causing damage of more than 2,830 billion VND.

To be proactive in natural disaster prevention and control, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and ministries have closely coordinated with localities to organize well the direction and timely and drastic response to specific contents in each storm and tropical depression. Special attention is paid to ships operating at sea, in estuaries and on rivers to minimize damage to people and property...

The Government has promptly supported localities, ministries and branches affected by natural disasters with a total budget of nearly 1,239 billion VND, 2,000 tons of rice, 1,400 tons of rice seeds, 267 tons of corn seeds, and 17.7 tons of vegetable seeds of various kinds.

At the conference, comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee evaluated the province's natural disaster prevention work in 2014. Nghe An is a province with very complex terrain and weather, so in natural disaster prevention work, attention should be paid to preparation, response and overcoming consequences. For Nghe An to effectively implement natural disaster prevention work, the Central Government needs to provide flood maps when strong storms occur so that the province has a basis to develop a disaster prevention plan. The establishment of the Natural Disaster Prevention Fund needs timely circulars and guidance documents and the province needs to participate in post-disaster reconstruction projects, upgrade technical infrastructure in disaster areas, and be given priority in investing in projects related to this field.

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai acknowledged and highly appreciated the work of flood and storm prevention and search and rescue in 2014 of ministries, branches and localities. In 2015, the weather and natural disasters are forecast to continue to be complicated, unusual and increasingly extreme. To proactively cope with natural disasters in 2015, ministries, branches and localities need to seriously and systematically implement natural disaster prevention and control work; Step up propaganda work, overcome subjectivity in natural disaster prevention and control work.
