Last year, the work of mobilizing and helping poor communes in the West continued to achieve positive results. The Steering Committee focused on directing and guiding agencies and units to help and support communes with specific and practical actions that are both immediate and long-term, such as: Supporting the construction and repair of houses for poor households; giving savings books to lonely elderly people with no place to rely on, people in especially difficult circumstances, building models of livestock and crop farming, economic development, building infrastructure, supporting and providing emergency famine relief for localities affected by natural disasters and floods...

Agencies, units, departments and branches assigned to help poor communes continue to grasp the situation and needs of the communes to have specific plans. In addition, the People's Committees of districts and communes in the Western region have organized to review and propose support needs; develop plans to receive and effectively use funding sources supported by agencies, units and enterprises.

Also in the past year, members of the Steering Committee and leaders of departments and branches mobilized 39 more businesses, organizations and individuals to join hands to support and help communes (an increase of 16 units compared to 2017). There are units that received support for many communes such as: Provincial Border Guard Command supported 3 communes...

In addition to the 113 units assigned to help, many corporations, general companies, individuals and organizations have participated in supporting and contributing to help poor communes with a total amount of over 48.3 billion VND; supporting the construction of 75 new houses; repairing 28 houses and donating 37 savings books. In particular, many units, with many new and creative ways of doing things, have successfully built many economic and social models in poor communes.

However, in the implementation of the work of helping poor communes in the Western region, there are still some shortcomings such as: The results of supporting poor communes in the Western region have not met the set goals, some implementation contents are low; leaders of communes and districts receiving support have not proactively contacted and coordinated with units receiving support to propose the need for help... This issue was discussed by delegates, who found the causes as well as proposed some solutions to better implement the work of helping and supporting poor communes in the Western region in the coming time.

At the conference, delegates agreed to strive for each unit to support, renovate or repair at least 3-5 houses for poor households in 2019; support vocational training for about 500-1000 people and build 5-10 more economic models of livestock and crop farming.

Concluding the conference, comrade Doan Hong Vu affirmed: Over the past year, units and organizations have actively carried out the work of helping poor communes in the West in many rich and diverse ways, showing sincere and warm gestures. However, besides the units that have provided effective assistance, many units have not done so regularly, only perfunctorily; in the list of 113 units, there are units that have not supported any items.

The Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said that after the conference, the Department will advise the Provincial People's Committee to issue a document so that the work of helping poor communes will be implemented more effectively, with new methods, striving to have 4% of poor households in the province by the end of 2019.
