At least 11 people fell ill and were treated for symptoms including nosebleeds and burning sensations. The victims included two soldiers who opened the envelopes. Three patients were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition, according to the Arlington Fire Department.
A second statement from the US Marine Corps on the evening of February 27 confirmed the above number of victims but did not mention specific symptoms.
The building was evacuated shortly thereafter and a decontamination station was deployed. The FBI and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service will conduct a joint investigation.
Henderson Hall is the headquarters of the United States Marine Corps, located next to Arlington National Cemetery.
