Need to properly evaluate the role of Civic Education

(Baonghean)The subject "Civic Education" has been included in the curriculum for a long time (in primary school it is called Ethics). It can be affirmed that this subject plays a very important role in the formation and development of students' personalities.

The special importance of this subject is that it contributes to forming a healthy worldview for students, helping them to distinguish right from wrong; to respect themselves and others; to live honestly, modestly, courageously, lovingly and altruistically.

In particular, the knowledge of Civic Education helps students form basic life skills to confidently enter life: sense of organization and discipline, having the right attitude in perceiving and complying with the law. Despite its importance, for many different reasons, the quality of teaching and learning this subject in the past has been limited.

A sad reality is that many students consider Civic Education as a minor subject, so they pay little attention and investment. With a one-sided and distorted way of thinking, most students only memorize and learn by rote to deal with teachers, and when it comes to tests, they copy and use documents... On the part of teachers, some teachers go to class with the mentality that their subject is a minor subject, so they pay little attention and investment in preparing lesson plans and lessons. I think it's time we seriously reconsider the role and position of this subject in the system of subjects, from which we propose specific and feasible solutions.
