Need to combine conservation with promoting the value of relics

Together with his fellow soldiers of Truong Son, every September 12 - the anniversary of Nghe Tinh Soviet Day, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam - Hung Nguyen Town visits historical sites. The first place he and his comrades visited was Nghe Tinh Soviet Square on September 12 - where the French colonialists suppressed the white terror, where planes twice bombed the demonstration, killing 217 people and injuring 125 others. And this site was the place where on December 9, 1961, during his second visit to his hometown, Uncle Ho went to Thai Lao cemetery to offer incense and flowers, respectfully bowing to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation; next was Xuan Hoa Temple (in Hung Long) - during the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of 1930 - 1931, the temple was the revolutionary base of the Party, the place where people gathered to protest. Not only the elderly, but on this occasion, at the Soviet Square on September 12, schools in Hung Nguyen, Vinh City organized for students to come and offer incense, flowers, and listen to explanations about the meaning of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement.

Mr. Hoang Vien's house relic is seriously degraded. |
In Nghi Loc, there are currently 3 relics associated with the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement in the district and all 3 relics have been restored and embellished with the State budget and contributions from the people.
In recent years, the work of researching, preserving and restoring the Nghe Tinh Soviet relics has been focused on. From 1984 to 2000, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has researched and submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to rank 47 national historical and cultural relics, including many important relics such as: Nghe Tinh Soviet Square in Thai Lao - Hung Nguyen, Vo Liet communal house, Nguyen Duy church in Thanh Chuong, Hung Nghiep commune association in Anh Son, Bung bridge (Dien Chau)... The Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has directed and guided localities to perform well the ceremony of receiving the certificate of recognition as a Historical and Cultural Relic. The day of receiving the Certificate of Historical and Cultural Relic has become a festival for local people, an occasion to arouse the pride and responsibility of the people towards the glorious past of their homeland and family. From 1990 - 2000, the nationally ranked relics have been funded to prevent degradation. For important relics, the Museum sends staff to the site to coordinate with local authorities to organize traditional exhibitions such as the Red Village Relic (Hung Dung), the operating base of the Central Region Party Committee in Hung Chau, Yen Xuan, the typical headquarters of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, etc.
Despite many efforts, the work of preserving and promoting the value of relics still has many issues to discuss. Some important relics are seriously degraded due to preservation work and slow project implementation, such as the relic of Mr. Hoang Vien's house in Hung Chau (Hung Nguyen) - the place chosen by our Party as a place for activities, printing documents, and directing the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of the Central Region Party Committee. With such great historical values and significance, in 1991, Mr. Hoang Vien's house was ranked by the State as a National Revolutionary Historical Relic. After many ups and downs, changes of time, and destruction by nature, at present, this relic only has a horizontal house remaining and has seriously degraded: the road to the relic is overgrown with grass, the pillars, beams, and doors are hollowed out by termites; many valuable photos of revolutionary soldiers of the Central Region Party Committee are faded and stained; The few remaining relics such as brass trays, bronze pots, seals, etc. have rusted due to lack of preservation.
Mr. Phan Van Vuong - conservation officer of Hung Nguyen District Museum said: In the face of the serious degradation of the relic, in 2000 and 2008, the State supported a total of 220 million VND for upgrading and repairing, but due to limited funding, only a small part of the relic could be repaired. In 2010, with the attention of authorities at all levels, the locality prepared a project dossier to upgrade the relic and the Provincial People's Committee decided to establish a project to upgrade and expand Mr. Hoang Vien's house. Accordingly, the project has a total investment of about 33 billion VND, including 4 items: Upgrading and embellishing the original relic; Building a memorial house, upgrading the road to the relic; Building a bridge across the river and a village gate for Chau Son people. However, at present, everything is still on paper.
In addition, many relics have been restored but it is still difficult to promote their value because they are far from the center, the caretakers and protectors of the relics are not able to explain and introduce when tourists come to visit. The budget for preventing the deterioration of relics is still limited, so many relics do not have enough funds for repair, leading to the deterioration.
In order to better preserve and promote the value of relics associated with the revolutionary movement of 1930 - 1931, it is necessary to step up propaganda work on many channels, especially on mass media, so that people can better understand the great value of a period of revolutionary history of our nation in general, and of the people of Nghe An in particular. Only then will people join hands and contribute to preserve and promote. The Department of Culture must clearly identify which relics need investment and restoration (when there is an approved project), to promptly advise the Provincial People's Committee for synchronous investment and restoration. Localities with tourism potential need to connect with relic sites to promote; coordinate with the Youth Union, the Veterans Association, the Women's Association and especially with local schools to care for and protect...
