(Baonghean.vn) - The clean water supply project for the community in Vinh Kim and Yen Hoa villages in Hoa Son commune (Anh Son) is a project under the Government's 134 program, funded by Denmark. Construction began in 2007, with an investment of 1.5 billion VND, but not long after being handed over for use, the project was damaged and abandoned.

Vinh Kim and Yen Hoa are the two most disadvantaged villages in Hoa Son commune, located more than 5 km from the commune center. Currently, the two villages have over 200 households, most of whom are Thai ethnic people. Mr. Lu Van Thanh - head of Yen Hoa village, said: "Our whole village currently has 163 households, the people's lives mainly depend on slash-and-burn farming, growing corn on the hills and farming. For a long time, it has been very difficult for people to be self-sufficient in clean water for daily life, especially during the drought season." Therefore, when hearing the news that a clean water project was about to be invested in, almost everyone was very happy because they did not have to worry about a lack of water for daily life. Along with a system of underground plastic pipes nearly 5km long, the project has 7 water tanks. In 2009, after construction was completed, the project was handed over to Hoa Son commune for exploitation and use. However, after only 4 months of use, the pipeline connecting from the source broke underground, and the project stopped operating completely.

Tanks built from a community clean water project abandoned for nearly 4 years

Mr. Nguyen Van Linh - Vice Chairman of Hoa Son Commune People's Committee said that when they learned about the above situation, the construction unit actively returned to repair and mend the site, but up to now, after nearly 4 years, the project is still abandoned. To ensure the rights of the people, the Commune People's Committee has repeatedly petitioned the District People's Committee and People's Councils at all levels but there has been no response.

The project is damaged while people are still waiting for clean water every day, every hour. We request local authorities and relevant agencies to clarify responsibilities and soon find solutions.
