'It is necessary to condemn and strictly handle food production facilities that do not ensure hygiene'
(Baonghean.vn) - The Deputy Prime Minister said that all agencies, organizations and individuals must be fully aware of their legal and ethical responsibilities in proactively participating in ensuring food hygiene and safety, and together fight against violations of food hygiene and safety.
On the morning of January 11, the Government held a national online conference on food safety, the issue has now changed for the better. The conference was chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Also attending was Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, ensuring food safety and hygiene is an important task, directly related to people's health, the race, the competitiveness of the economy, and the ability to access and expand international markets. This task requires very synchronous and close coordination between state management agencies, organizations, and associations, especially the mobilization of people and the business community to participate.
“The production, processing and trading of unsafe food is illegal, unethical, selfish and harmful to others, contrary to morality and the nation’s tradition of kindness. These acts need to be clearly identified, condemned and strictly handled,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to the Ministry of Health's report, after 2 years of implementing Directive 13, authorities have prosecuted 28 cases with 42 defendants for violating food safety regulations and trading in counterfeit food, foodstuffs, and food additives.

In 2019, the country recorded 76 food poisoning cases that affected nearly 2,000 people, hospitalized 1,918 people and caused 8 deaths.
Meanwhile, in Nghe An, in just the first 9 months of 2019, through inspections and checks on food safety and hygiene for more than 20,000 business establishments, it was found that 17,222 establishments met the standards (83.8%) and 3,325 establishments did not meet the standards (accounting for 16.2%), with 3,317 establishments violating, of which 2,000 establishments were warned and 1,317 establishments were fined with a fine of VND 1,892,029,000.
