Need to pay attention to the quality of clean water in rural areas

August 26, 2011 10:43

By the end of 2011, about 86% of the rural population will have access to clean water. The rate of people using water is quite high, but it seems that the quality of water for people is still a big problem.

Because according to current statistics, only about 25% of the population has access to clean water that meets standards (QC 02: 2009/Ministry of Health). The reason for this situation is that the majority of rural people do not have access to clean water through centralized water supply projects, but are using domestic water through small-scale water supply models (drilled wells, drilled wells...) while underground water sources are increasingly depleted and polluted.

Therefore, in parallel with the work of increasing the proportion of people using domestic water, it is necessary to pay attention to water quality to help people prevent waterborne diseases caused by water sources that do not ensure quality. To increase the proportion of people using clean water that meets the standards of the Ministry of Health, in the coming time, it is necessary to prioritize investment capital for the construction of centralized water supply works; promote the socialization of the water supply sector and issue appropriate mechanisms and policies such as tax incentives, loans, land lease, risk support... to attract organizations and individuals to invest in the construction of centralized water supply works with large capacity and modern technology, meeting the clean water needs of the people.

Using clean water that meets standards is a legitimate need of people in rural areas, so authorities at all levels and sectors need to pay attention to investing promptly, avoiding the situation of only paying attention to quantity and "underestimating" quality.
