Need to build flower and ornamental plant market

(Baonghean) -For nearly a week now, Ms. Le Thi Nguyet in Hamlet 3, Kim Chi craft village, Nghi An commune - (Vinh City) has been traveling every day on her motorbike carrying hundreds of chrysanthemum plants to Vinh City to sell. She confided: "Near Tet, there will be many people selling flowers in the city, so we have to wake up early, prepare vehicles, tie up pots and flower plants, and then we go out to sell everywhere, sometimes even going all the way to Thanh Chuong or Hung Nguyen."

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thong - head of Kim Chi Craft Village, said: Currently, the craft village has 3 hectares of land mainly growing chrysanthemums of all kinds, in addition to ornamental plants of all kinds such as Ngau, Lan Y, Thiet, Truc, serving the wholesale and retail needs in the market during Tet in Vinh City, Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, Nam Dan, Cua Lo, Ha Tinh. According to Mr. Thong, the market for ornamental plants during Tet this year will not be the same as in previous years. Construction projects, hotels only buy plants at affordable prices from 2-4 million VND/plant. However, the most difficult thing for people now is that there is no place to introduce products, most of them have to sell freely.

With no centralized shopping center, many flower and ornamental plant shops on Lenin Avenue are haphazardly displayed during the Tet holiday.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Truc - Vice Chairman of Nghi An Commune, said: On average, every day, the flower and ornamental plant growing villages in the area have about 30 households regularly traveling to sell everywhere. During Tet, this number in the commune increases to nearly 300-400 households.

Due to the lack of planning for concentrated flower and ornamental plant selling points during Tet, people sell wherever they like in a very chaotic manner. Some central market areas around Vinh market, Hung Dung market, sidewalks on Phong Dinh Cang, Le Duan, Nguyen Sy Sach streets... have hundreds of small spontaneous flower and ornamental plant selling points, jostling on the road. For example, the beginning of Lenin Avenue is considered a "street" of flowers and ornamental plants. Near Tet, motorbikes and cars stop and park haphazardly in the middle of the road to buy and sell. This situation causes disorder, traffic safety as well as urban aesthetics.

To solve the above difficulties, it is thought that building a market or planning a concentrated flower and ornamental plant product introduction point in Vinh City is an issue that the Vinh City People's Committee is considering before the Lunar New Year this year. This is also a legitimate wish of flower growers in the area and surrounding areas. It is known that the plan to build a flower market was approved by the People's Committee at the end of 2011. According to the plan, the market area is planned in Kim Chi hamlet with a total area of 2.7 hectares, on the agricultural land of the people. The market includes many areas for traditional local flowers, high-class flowers, areas for selling large and small plants with different values, and an area for potted plants. However, because the initial investment capital is from 4 to 5 billion VND, which is not small in the current budget conditions, the project has not yet been approved for investment. However, flower farmers still hope to be temporarily created favorable conditions in terms of space so that the sale of flowers and ornamental plants during Tet is convenient. This is also a solution that contributes to ensuring urban security and order, while ensuring the civilization and beauty of the city in general, especially during Tet.
