Cua Lo deep-water port is adjusted to 3 berths with a total investment of nearly 7,325 billion VND.

The Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee has just approved the policy of adjusting the project to build and operate Cua Lo Deep-Water Port at the regular meeting in July 2024 on the afternoon of July 29.

Comrade Thai Thanh Quy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation chaired and directed.

Attending the meeting were comrades: Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Hoang Nghia Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; comrades of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and representatives of a number of relevant departments, agencies and branches.

Accordingly, the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee agreed to let the International Maritime Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (ITID) invest in the construction of 3 berths, including 2 berths for ships up to 50,000 DWT and 1 berth for ships of 100,000 DWT, with a total berth length of 800m and ancillary works such as: 1,550m long breakwater, connecting bridge from the bridge to the berth, shipping channel, turning and docking area.

Thus, compared to the scale of the project approved by the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee for adjustment in February 2023, the project will have 1 more wharf, the breakwater will also be extended and the capacity of Cua Lo deep-water seaport will be enhanced to be able to receive ships with a maximum tonnage of 50,000 DWT to 100,000 DWT.

The port's rear area was also adjusted to increase the land use area from 20ha to 32ha to build works such as: container yard, CFS area (station for gathering goods from shippers to be packed into containers), warehouse, general cargo yard, bulk cargo yard, internal port road, parking lot, fuel station...

At the same time, the sea surface area for the deep-water port area increased from 200ha to 208.15ha to build offshore port facilities including: berths, breakwaters, bridges connecting the approach bridge to the berths; turning area and shipping channel.

The previous total investment of the project was 3,896 billion VND. However, to adjust the port scale, the total investment capital of the Cua Lo Deep-water Seaport project was also adjusted by the investor to increase to 7,324.956 billion VND, divided into 2 phases.

In particular, phase 1 (2024 - 2028) with nearly 5,251 billion VND will invest in wharf No. 6, wharf No. 7 (50,000 DWT), build 1,200m of breakwater, connecting bridge No. 1, shipping channel and maritime support, road, architectural works and accompanying infrastructure.

Phase 2 investment capital (2029 - 2030) of more than VND 2,074 billion will invest in wharf No. 5 (100,000 DWT), build an additional 350m of breakwater, connecting bridge No. 2, beach road, architectural works and accompanying technical infrastructure.

The project is implemented in the North Cua Lo wharf area, Nghe An seaport in Nghi Thiet commune, Nghi Loc district, associated with the Southeast Economic Zone to meet the requirements of exporting and importing goods to serve the socio-economic development of Nghe An province and neighboring areas.

Investors estimate that when the project comes into operation, it will meet the throughput of about 9.5 million tons of goods/year; contributing an average annual state budget of about 100 billion VND.
