Laptop battery fire warning
Yesterday, April 11, Sony Global Corporation announced the risk that the batteries of some Sony VAIO Fit 11A laptop models could overheat and cause a fire.
Therefore, customers are warned to immediately stop using the laptop while Sony conducts a repair and battery replacement program for the faulty VAIO Fit 11A laptops worldwide. Sony also promised to try to announce the details of the repair program within the next 2 weeks.
The VAIO Fit 11A laptop has only been sold globally since February. In Vietnam, Sony VN Company has distributed only one model of this product, SVF11N16CGS, since March 24, and by April 11, about 20 units had been sold. Sony VN said it is working with dealers to contact all customers who own the VF11N16CGS model for inspection and handling.
Previously, on April 10, the Competition Management Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) announced a recall program for some Lenovo batteries used in ThinkPad laptops sold globally from October 2010 to April 2011. Specifically, batteries with product codes (FRU P/N) including 42T4695; 42T4812; 42T4834 may overheat, causing a risk of fire or damage. Lenovo is exchanging and collecting the recalled batteries free of charge. The Competition Management Department recommends that consumers temporarily remove the battery from the ThinkPad laptop, only turn on the laptop when plugged in with a charger and power cord, and contact Lenovo to check whether the battery code is subject to recall.
