Golden Kite 2011 witnessed the dominance of private films
The annual awards ceremony of the Cinema Association has begun to prepare for a new season. According to the Organizing Committee, the number of films competing this year has increased significantly. In the category for feature films, there are 12 films competing, of which 10 are from private companies.
“As scheduled”, the annual award ceremony of the Cinema Association begins to prepare for a new season every March. As usual, the professional association will award the following categories: feature films, television series, short films, animated films, scientific films, documentaries and awards for research works, film criticism theories.
At the press conference held on the morning of March 1, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Ngát - Permanent Vice President of the Cinema Association said that the number of films participating in the Golden Kite Awards this year has increased significantly, especially in the category for feature films. Mother's Soul continues to compete for the Golden Kite Award
Of the 12 films participating in the Golden Kite Awards 2011, 10 are from private film studios. Mr. Xuan Hai, Chairman of the Cinema Association, confirmed to the press, “With the Golden Kite Awards, private films and state-owned films are the same, there is no distinction.”
In the TV series category, there were 19 films participating, with a total of 597 episodes. Because there were so many participating episodes, the TV series jury had to judge the awards very early (it started a week ago).
Unlike last year, when the members of the jury were all publicly identified at the press conference before the Golden Kite, this year, the Organizing Committee kept the members of the jury absolutely secret, only announcing the "characters" who were the heads of the jury, such as People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac as the head of the jury for the film category, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Vinh Son as the head of the jury for the short film category, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Huu Phan as the head of the jury for the television category...
Members of the jury in award categories are always the focus of the press. Because, “like judge, like award”. The more controversial the award, the more the jury is “questioned”. Mr. Xuan Hai explained the reason for keeping the identities of the jury members secret: “When we invite them to the jury, every director and artist complains that they are questioned and bothered too much. That is why they ask us to keep information about the jury members secret. We think that this request is completely legitimate”. (!).
Also at the press conference on the morning of March 1, the Golden Kite Organizing Committee announced the scoring criteria for the works participating in the Golden Kite Award. The winning works are those with personal creative imprints, rich in humanistic values and achieving positive social effects. Accordingly, films and works that win the Golden Kite must have an average score of 9.1-10. Films and works that win the Silver Kite must have a score of 8.1-9. And films and works that win a certificate of merit must have a score of 7.1-8. (Add up the scores of each member of the jury and divide by the average to get the score for the work).
In addition to awards for works, there will also be Golden Kite Awards given to individuals such as best director, best leading and supporting actress, best leading and supporting actor, etc.

The Scent of Burning Grass - one of the works considered to be a strong contender in this year's Golden Kite season.
Individual awards will be nominated by the jury members. Each jury member will nominate 2 people in the competition category. The “character” with the most nominations will win the award. For example, in the Golden Kite Award for Best Actress, each member of the jury for the feature film category will nominate 2 actresses. The winning actress will be the one nominated by the most jury members.
The Golden Kite Awards ceremony will be the key activity in the series of activities to celebrate Vietnamese Cinema Day.
