Beware of numbness in hands after waking up
If you experience numbness in your hands after waking up, you may have one of the following diseases:
1. Cervical spondylosis
Working on the computer a lot and not exercising much is one of the causes of cervical spondylosis and spinal calcification. This is also the most common disease among office workers. Initially, the patient feels slight numbness and pain in the limbs after waking up, which can go away on its own after a few days and does not greatly affect daily activities. However, in the later stages, the bone spurs of the degenerated cervical vertebrae compress the nerves and arteries of the cervical vertebrae, causing prolonged numbness and pain in the limbs, affecting limb movement and daily activities.
However, numbness and pain in the limbs due to osteoarthritis often manifests differently in each person, depending on the degenerated vertebrae and the compressed nerve. Cervical spondylosis often causes pain and numbness spreading along the arm, forearm, hand, and fingers along the path of the compressed nerve, causing numbness, pain, difficulty in movement, and accompanied by numbness, pain behind the neck and shoulders, back pain, and knee pain. This phenomenon of numbness in the hand is very common after you wake up.

2. Carpal tunnel syndrome
Typical signs of carpal tunnel syndrome are pain, numbness, and tingling in the fingers, especially the thumb, second and third fingers, and the outer half of the ring finger. The pain may radiate to the wrist, palm, and forearm, especially at night or after waking up. Patients with numbness or pain in the hands will become clumsy, especially in grasping movements.
The condition is caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist. The median nerve is a nerve that receives sensation from the skin of the index and middle fingers, and the palm below those two fingers. At the same time, the median nerve also commands muscle contraction in the fingers.
At the wrist, the median nerve travels through a tunnel called the carpal tunnel. The carpal tunnel is the space between the bones of the wrist below and on either side, covered by a broad sheet of tendon called the transverse carpal fascia. The space within the carpal tunnel is quite narrow, and when it narrows, the median nerve becomes compressed, causing carpal tunnel syndrome.
3. Heart disease
Numbness and swelling in the fingertips, especially frequently occurring after waking up, is one of the early warning signs of heart and kidney disease.
If you find that in addition to numbness in your hands after waking up, your hands also feel swollen and painful joints, swelling in your face and legs, then the risk of heart disease is even greater. This is because the heart is not working effectively, leading to uneven blood flow to the organs in the body, you may experience numbness in your hands and feet.
In addition, if there are also symptoms of facial skin, the skin on the fingers is hard, it may be scleroderma.
From this, it can be seen that numbness in the hands after waking up is not a small matter, because it can be a sign of many different diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to make an accurate diagnosis to find the appropriate treatment.
If the cause of the disease is due to living habits or local injuries (such as in the case of incorrect working posture)... then the simple solution is to pay attention to changing your posture appropriately. In addition, when sleeping, you should also use a low pillow, do not rest your head on your arm or let others rest their head on your arm.
