The security forum was attended by 120 representatives from 10 ASEAN member countries and host country China.
Speaking at the forum, Chinese Deputy Minister of Public Security Li Wei stressed that coordination between Chinese and ASEAN police officials is essential to ensuring regional security.
Meanwhile, Mr. Zhu Lin, an associate professor at the Chinese Academy of Armed Police Forces, said that today's terrorists not only target the police and government, but also civilians, including foreign tourists.
On the other hand, the widespread use of information technology also makes it easy for terrorists and transnational criminals to steal information without revealing their identities.
He said it is necessary to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism to enhance information exchange and sharing, allowing ASEAN and Chinese police to prevent terrorism and other forms of crime.
According to the Global Terrorism Database, over the past 10 years, the number of terrorist attacks targeting China and ASEAN has increased nearly fourfold, from 146 in 2003 to 575 in 2012./.
