Police arrest 50 people in Paris after Euro final
(Baonghean.vn) - On the night of July 10, on the sidelines of the Euro final between France and Portugal, police arrested 50 people. Most of the arrests took place in areas where fans gathered, such as the Champs de Mars and the Stade de France in Saint-Denis.
According to Paris police headquarters, these people were arrested for “throwing objects, arson, rioting and resisting security forces”.
Tensions broke out on the Champ de Mars in the evening after dozens of people tried to enter the Paris fan zone, which was packed with 90,000 people, at 7pm. Police fired tear gas to disperse them.
Tensions flared again during extra time between France and Portugal and police were forced to use water cannons to disperse the crowd.

Security was restored at fan gathering points at the end of the match.
In the Eiffel Tower area, there were 2 tire burning incidents and 1 car burning incident along with many trash cans being burned.
On the night of July 10, a car also overturned onto two pedestrians, sending one to the hospital with a head injury.
Traffic was banned from 10 p.m. between the Concorde area and the Etoile Square. Shops were also ordered to close at 9 p.m. Parking was also banned in the area until 7 a.m. on July 11.
At the end of the match, most of the people gathered on the Champs Elysées were Portuguese. However, police recorded a number of injuries afterwards.
In Lyon, at 1:30 a.m. on July 11, nine people were arrested overnight for “violence, insults, fireworks or resistance to public officials.”
A police officer in Lyon suffered minor injuries after being hit by a projectile.
