Chinese police kill 6 attackers in Xinjiang
Police in China's far western Xinjiang region shot dead six attackers on January 12, as authorities launched a security crackdown in the restive Muslim-majority region, AFP reported.
The clashes broke out after residents of Shule county, near the ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar, spotted “a suspicious person carrying an explosive device” and reported it to police, according to Xinjiang’s Tianshan news portal.

Police opened fire after the suspect attempted to attack an officer with an axe and detonated an explosive device.
Shortly after this man was killed, five other attackers "attempted to detonate explosive devices" but were also shot dead by police.
