Preschool level has the highest proportion of non-public students
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, by the end of the 2012-2013 school year, the country had nearly 19 million students at preschool and primary levels (both public and non-public). Primary school had the largest scale with 7.2 million students, secondary school had 4.9 million students, and high school had 2.7 million students.

The rate of preschool and primary school students studying at non-public educational institutions accounts for more than 4%. Notably, preschool level has the highest rate of children studying at non-public educational institutions - with 15.5%, equivalent to nearly 500 thousand children. The rate of non-public students at high school level is more than 9%. The remaining two levels of education, primary school and secondary school, both have a rate of non-public students of less than 1%.
Compared to the previous school year, the rate of students studying at non-public educational institutions at all levels decreased, with the sharpest decrease at preschool level, with nearly 300,000 children.
