Update on developments and direction of storm No. 3 recovery

(Baonghean.vn) -The Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Nghe An province has just hadOfficial dispatch No. 26/BC.VP-PCTT updates developments and direction for overcoming storm No. 3.

According to the report of the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, as of 11:30 a.m. on August 22, 2016, the initial damage caused by storm No. 3 in Nghe An is as follows:

- Tan Ky district lost 1 person due to being swept away by flood and the body was recovered; Ky Son district flooded 16 houses (My Ly commune: 12 houses; Keng Du: 4 houses); 6 houses swept away (My Ly commune: 3 houses; Keng Du: 3 houses); landslide forced evacuation of 1 house (Muong Tip commune); 3 trucks of Tuyen Tai company were submerged in Ban Xop Tu, My Ly commune; 1 motorboat was swept away; 150 machines were swept away (My Ly commune); 250 people had to be evacuated to safety; the road from Muong Xen town to Muong Tip commune was flooded at 4 points; the road from Huu Lap to Bao Nam had landslides spilling onto the road; the spillway on the Na Loi to Keng Du route was flooded and vehicles could not pass.

- Nhan - Khanh embankment of Ta Lam dike system (in Hung Nguyen district) had a landslide of 55m long; Cam village spillway, Cam Muon commune (Que Phong district) was severely damaged. Some local dams and reservoirs managed by irrigation companies had their upper and lower slopes collapsed, the spillway was eroded (statistics are being counted); canals and ditches had landslides: 3,500m. Filling up the suction tanks of pumping stations along Ca river; gates 2 and 4 of Ben Thuy sluice were damaged, emergency floats had to be used to close the sluice gates; traffic works: Some provincial roads, district roads and internal roads were flooded, eroded, damaged (statistics are being counted)...

Faced with the above damage, the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue directed the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to immediately deploy the work of assessing and reporting damage statistics to proactively support and overcome the consequences. Mobilize forces and means in the area to help and guide people to overcome the damage; Draw from the district budget to organize visits and encourage families with deceased people and families with heavy damage to their houses caused by floods. The Department of Transport directed localities and units to assign people to stand guard and guide traffic, ensuring safety for people at flooded and overflowing locations; mobilize machinery and equipment to handle landslides and traffic jams, ensuring smooth traffic safety...
