Japanese couple reveal the secret to being the longest-lasting couple in the world

The couple who just set the Guinness World Record for the longest-married couple revealed that it is the wife's patience that helps them maintain their marriage.

Old manMasao Matsumoto, 108 years old and his grandmother Miyako,100 years old has just been recorded asthe world's longest married couple, having been together since October 1937.

"I'm so happy, it's thanks to my patience," Miyako said with a smile as she stood next to her husband and other family members, in front of a certificate at the nursing home where they live.

Husband and wifeMatsumoto never got married because Japan was at war and Masao was sent overseas to fight. But they overcame all obstacles to build a large family - with their 25th great-grandchild being born last month.

"They have entered the final chapter of their lives. I am very proud that my parents have received this award. I hope they continue to live in peace," said their daughter, Mrs.Hiromi, said.

Japan is one of the countries with the highest life expectancy in the world, with an average life expectancy of 84, second only to Hong Kong people.

The previous record for longest married couple belonged to a Norwegian couple.Karl and Gurdren Dolven, with a combined age of 210 years, one month and 34 days when Gurdrun died in 2004, according to Guinness World Records.
