Power outage without notice will be punished with up to 2 years in prison

Crime of violating regulations on electricity supply stipulates that those who cut off electricity without basis, do not notify as prescribed, or delay handling electrical incidents without legitimate reasons will be fined from 30 to 150 million VND and imprisoned for up to 2 years.

According to Article 199 of the 2015 Penal Code (Crime of Violating regulations on electricity supply) effective from July 1: Anyone who cuts off electricity without basis or notice as prescribed; refuses to supply electricity without basis; or delays handling electrical incidents without justifiable reasons will be fined from 30 million to 150 million VND, sentenced to non-custodial reform for up to 2 years or imprisoned from 3 months to 2 years.

The signs of crime in this case are determined to have caused injury or damage to a person's health at a rate of 31-60% or caused property damage from 100 million VND to less than 500 million VND or have been disciplined, administratively sanctioned for this act or have had their criminal record erased but still committed the violation.

In case of causing death, causing health damage to a person of 61% or more or causing property damage from 500 million VND to less than 1.5 billion VND, the offender will be fined from 150 million VND to 500 million VND or imprisoned from one year to five years.

The penalty can be from 3 to 7 years in prison if the act of cutting off electricity without basis, without notification as prescribed; refusing to supply electricity without basis; delaying the handling of electrical incidents without legitimate reasons by the responsible person is determined to cause the death of 2 people or more, causing property damage of 1.5 billion VND or more...

In additional penalties, the convicted person may also be fined from 10 million to 50 million VND; banned from holding positions, practicing a profession or doing certain jobs from one to five years.
