Sand bandits are rampant on Dinh River.
(Baonghean) -Every afternoon, the Dinh River (the section flowing through Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop district) rumbles with the sound of sand and gravel suction engines and trucks continuously coming in and out.
Illegal sand mining is changing the flow of the Dinh River, causing serious erosion and landslides, threatening the property and lives of people on both sides of the river. According to Mr. Le Si Hao - Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quy Hop district, in the past time, the department has coordinated with inter-sectoral forces to launch a campaign to sweep and arrest many cases of illegal sand and gravel mining on the Dinh River. However, when the forces had just withdrawn, sand bandits secretly used water hoses to illegally suck sand. One of the reasons why sand and gravel management is facing many difficulties is due to the increasing demand for construction materials, while in the district there is not a single enterprise licensed to explore and exploit sand and gravel according to the correct procedures, causing illegal sand mining.
