On the morning of January 26, 2015, the Cua Lo Town Police received a report that Mr. Hoang Mai Phuong, a security guard at the Vietnam Television Training Center in Cua Lo Town, had been robbed by a group of individuals using weapons on Nguyen Sinh Cung Street (Nghi Huong Ward, Cua Lo Town). After five days of investigation, on January 31, 2015, the Cua Lo Town Police arrested the group involved in the robbery, including: Nguyen Tuan Anh (born in 1999), residing in Hamlet 15, Nghi Phu Commune, Vinh City; Phan Van Linh (born in 1991), and Nguyen Thai Hoang (born in 1996), both residing in Xuan Huong Hamlet, Nghi Duc Commune, Vinh City. The weapons used by the suspects were a baton and a metal pipe.

It is known that the two suspects, Nguyen Tuan Anh and Phan Van Linh, have previous convictions for robbery and have served over four years in correctional facilities.
