A five-year-old boy found a stack of money hidden in his home and took it out to play with while his parents were away on May 20, the South China Morning Post reported. As a result, the stack of 100 yuan bills worth up to 50,000 yuan (more than $7,000) was torn to pieces, according to Chinese media.

The boy's father, Mr. Gao, who lives in the port city of Qingdao in eastern China's Shandong province, said the bills were so shredded that it took him two days to painstakingly glue the pieces back together.

"I tried very hard for two days but could only stick them together relatively well. Some sheets were torn into two or three pieces, others were torn into dozens of pieces. It was too difficult to put them back together intact," he said.

The bank only agreed to exchange new notes after the fragments were assembled, Mr. Gao said.

Mr. Gao said that it was the money he had just borrowed from the bank for his business. Although he was very upset, he only scolded his naughty son and did not punish him because "after all, he is too young to understand", the father sighed.
