Looking at the Ben Thuy II bridge proudly connecting the two banks, we can feel more the efforts of the bridge workers who have overcome many difficulties to build the most modern bridge over Lam River in Nghe An today. Ensuring technical, aesthetic and quality criteria, Ben Thuy II bridge was built with techniques and technology that require high qualifications of the team of engineers, workers and advanced machinery.

Ben Thuy II Bridge crosses Lam River about 800m upstream from the current Ben Thuy Bridge, the starting point connects with Vinh bypass at Km 23 + 800 and connects with National Highway 8B. The bridge has a design load of HL 93, earthquake level 8, a bridge width of 25m, can accommodate 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles, has a safety median strip with flowers, ornamental plants and iron bridge railings. Ben Thuy II Bridge has a total investment of 1,259,603 million VND, with the Ministry of Transport as the investor, the investor representative is PMU 85.

Construction started on March 14, 2010, contractors: Construction Joint Stock Company 471, Construction Construction Joint Stock Company 419, Joint Stock Company 482, Joint Stock Company 473, Construction Construction Joint Stock Company 525, joint venture of MCO Vietnam Joint Stock Company and Construction Mechanical Joint Stock Company 465, Hoang Long Construction Company... have made efforts to overcome difficulties to complete the construction on schedule for their bid packages.

Construction Joint Stock Company 419 in conjunction with Joint Stock Company 482, has completed package 3.2, building the approach bridge from pier M0 to pier T8 and designing the construction drawings of the Ben Thuy II Bridge Project, which has finished quite early. As contractors who have built the Ben Luc - Long An Bridge, Da Rang - Phu Yen Bridge, Hung Vuong - Phu Yen Bridge, Vinh Tuy Bridge, this joint stock company has completed its package with many complex items such as launching and installing Super T girders, drilling bored piles. Workers and technical staff are laying hot asphalt for the last meters, cleaning the construction site, and checking the technical aspects of the final welds. Mr. Bui Van Buoi - Deputy Director of Joint Stock Company 419 pointed out the strengths of Ben Thuy II Bridge compared to Ben Thuy I Bridge: Ben Thuy II Bridge (longer than Ben Thuy I Bridge) with a total length of 3,640m, of which the approach girders and main bridge girders are 996m long. Some girder spans are up to 40m long. The bridge is constructed using modern cantilever technology, prestressed reinforced concrete cast directly on the river, requiring very high technical standards and great safety. Bored piles are made using modern drilling machines, drilling 58-62m deep into the riverbed.

Meeting the production team leader of the 419 Construction Joint Stock Company, Phan Dinh Doan - who has been attached to bridge construction sites across the country for nearly 27 years, with bridges such as Vinh Tuy (Hanoi), Da Rang (Phu Yen), Ro Bridge (Thanh Chuong) ... He said that he has been working on the bridge for 2 years now. His whole team often divides into 3 shifts to keep up with the progress. Originally from Nghe An, but married and built a house in Ky Anh - Ha Tinh, he rarely has time to visit home. On this occasion, he was honored to be proposed by the Company to the Ministry of Transport to receive a certificate of merit.

479 Joint Stock Company is the contractor for the main bridge construction package from the main span to the T18 pier and the design and construction. This is the package with the most difficult and complicated items. Mr. Duong Ngoc Be - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company said: The company has completed the package on schedule and handed it over to the investor. To execute this decisive package, the company has mobilized more than 100 officers, engineers, and technical workers to be present at the construction site. Some workers and divers had to work underwater when building the pier base.

Construction requires a lot of effort, intelligence and mastery of advanced technology, but management and supervision work is equally important. Project Management Board 85 of the Ministry of Transport, the Board of Directors of Ben Thuy II Bridge Project have not been afraid of the sun or rain, working hard to stay on the project, taking care of site clearance, choosing designs, choosing reputable contractors, taking care of capital, supervising quality and progress, so that the project achieves the highest technical and aesthetic results.

Mr. Tran Quang Dan - Executive Director of Ben Thuy II Bridge Project under Project Management Board 85 (Ministry of Transport) excitedly said: "The construction of this project encountered many difficulties such as very complicated riverbed geology, site clearance work was often at a standstill, then frequent rains and storms, besides, the funding for the project was sometimes not timely, but the Board and contractors tried very hard, it can be said that we have surpassed ourselves".

Ben Thuy II Bridge is a key project of the Ministry of Transport to relieve traffic congestion on Ben Thuy I Bridge (which is currently degraded and overloaded) and National Highway 1A. When the bridge is put into operation, it will complete the Vinh bypass route, the traffic network on National Highway 1A through Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces; improve the efficiency of the Vinh bypass route, and connect with National Highway 8B to ensure continuous traffic even during the rainy season. Ben Thuy II Bridge, when put into use, also increases the attractiveness of the investment environment of the area; making an important contribution to creating a dynamic economic zone, a growth pole of Nam Nghe - Bac Ha in the future.
