The orphaned student gave up his dream of university.

(Baonghean.vn) - The university sent the admission notice, but it seemed like the dream of attending university was becoming more and more distant for the studious boy.

His parents passed away from a terrible cancer, Hoang’s already miserable life became even more miserable without any support. The future seemed to be wide open right before his eyes with the admission notice from Vinh University, but now it has become too far away because of the worry about tuition fees and not knowing where to find them.

The ultimate pain

In the last days of August, when many families were bustling and busy with the atmosphere of the school opening season, we went to the old level 4 house of the three sisters Dang Dang Hoang (born in 1999) located on the road of Hamlet 14, Nghi Lien Commune, Vinh City (Nghe An). The old, damp house with moss growing around the base of the wall was the only property that Hoang's parents left behind after their death. The creaking door in the quiet space sounded so sad, inside the house there was only a small, rickety bed hidden behind an old, worn curtain, a few small chairs and a small table with books neatly arranged by Hoang. "I intended to wrap it up to give to the children in the neighborhood below! I don't study anymore, so why keep it!..." - Hoang's sad words made me feel like something was blocking my throat.

Hoang poured water for the guests and began to tell me about his family's extremely tragic situation. In 2013, when his parents were in the stage of making a living, his mother fell ill. All the capital from the business was now saved to treat his mother's cancer. But no one expected that less than 10 months later, his father also fell ill with symptoms of abdominal swelling. There wasn't much money because the treatment for his mother was beyond the family and relatives' ability, Hoang's three sisters painfully swallowed their tears because there was no way to save their parents.

Losing both parents in a moment due to a terrible disease, Hoang's eldest sister Huyen Trang, who was in grade 12, had to quit school to work to support Hoang and her youngest brother, who was in grade 2. Right when the family's situation fell into the most miserable period, luck came to Huyen Trang when she received help from local charities to support her education. Grateful to the kind-hearted people who helped them, all three sisters tried hard to study so as not to let their efforts down. At the end of 2015, Huyen Trang passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Law - Vinh University, while Hoang and his younger brother also strived to achieve high results. In addition to studying at school, the three sisters at home also helped each other with housework and gardening to have more vegetables in their meals.

Unfulfilled dream

But the support was limited, only enough for Trang to sustain her for 4 years of university, and for Hoang, the university acceptance letter sent home only made him sadder because he was worried about the tuition fee at the beginning of the year and the cost of 4 years of university. August 20 was the day to complete the admission procedures. However, Hoang could only sit at home looking at his parents' altar, hiding his tears.

In the recent university entrance exam, Dang Dang Hoang scored 17.5 points including three subjects: Math, Physics and Chemistry, qualifying him to enter the Faculty of Construction as he had previously registered. However, sadly, a future that should have been very bright now had to hide the admission notice to go to the fields to help his sister weed the rice.

“Going to school is Hoang’s biggest wish, because he said that only by going to school can he escape poverty and make his parents feel secure. Hoang’s dream is to become a construction engineer. But perhaps that wish is difficult to come true because he doesn’t have money to pay for school.

"These past few days, my sister has been sitting around talking about letting her quit school and go to work to earn money to pay for my tuition, but I don't want that. Because it was very difficult for her to get to that point, and now she still has more than a year to graduate.Let me go to school, you stay home and work to contribute money to raise the child.youngest brother,"I will go back to school later if I have the chance, but I absolutely cannot leave it unfinished like that..." - Hoang's words faltered, his broad, intelligent forehead could not hide his eyes of regret and disappointment.
