18 year old player drowned while swimming at the beach

Cesar Andres Sanchez, an 18-year-old Paraguayan from the town of Santa Pola in Alicante province, died on Tuesday in a cove on the island of Tabarca. Cesar Andres Sanchez was captain of the Santa Pola CF youth team and was set to play for the club's first team next season.

Andres and his friends went to Tabarca Island to swim during the summer vacation. While at the beach, he decided to jump from a high rock into the water. Andres managed to stick his head out once before being swallowed by a wave. Some witnesses jumped into the sea to try to find the 18-year-old player but were unable to do so and had to call the rescue service. Divers and helicopters were mobilized to the scene.

Andres' body was found four hours later, just 20 metres from where he jumped into the sea. According to Diario, the autopsy results showed that the young talent died of drowning. The funeral took place today, July 11, two days after the accident, in the town of Santa Pola.

Andres has been living in Spain for three years, with his mother and stepfather from Paraguay. His mother was eight months pregnant. The tragic accident left Andres' mother in shock and she had to be taken to Elche hospital for treatment.

"Cesar, a young player of Santa Pola CF, has left us prematurely. The club expresses its deep pain at this great loss and sends its deepest condolences to his parents, family and friends," the club said in a statement.

Santa Pola CF president Jorge Diez described Andres as a "disciplined, hard-working and mature" young player.
