Sharp commentator of the press

(Baonghean) -When we were students at the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda, we listened to journalist Ho Quang Loi "lecturing" on how to write commentary. His lectures always made future journalists listen and absorb every word. At that time, he was famous, a "star" in the journalism world, so we could only listen, find newspapers to read and admire from afar. And few people knew that he was also a native of Nghe An, from Quynh Doi, Quynh Luu, Nghe An.

Then, coincidentally, when I returned to work in Nghe An, I “met” him again through a very passionate talk with many members of the Provincial Journalists Association. I still remember that time, journalist Nguyen Thanh Tien, Chairman of the Association, who had the initiative to invite Ho Quang Loi to his hometown to talk, after finishing and saying goodbye so that he could return to Hanoi because he was busy, kept praising him, “Ho Quang Loi is really sharp, really good…”

And when Nghe An Newspaper inaugurated its new office, Mr. Ho Quang Loi, then Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, visited and congratulated, bringing with him a lot of affection from his comrades, colleagues, and fellow countrymen. Since then, he has become extremely close to the leaders and reporters of the party newspaper in his hometown. We learned that through direct conversations in Nghe An, Hanoi, or wherever possible, everyone learned from Ho Quang Loi "the moments of intense and intense thinking...", the way to "grasp a problem, flash an idea in the sudden form of words..." (words used by Researcher Tran Tieu Son).

With a very proud starting point: an excellent student of Phan Boi Chau High School (Nghe An), trained at Bucaret University - Romania, trained in life and writing at the leading newspaper of the People's Army (8 years as a reporter, 13 years as Deputy Head of International News, 5 years as Deputy Editor-in-Chief), Ho Quang Loi not only stands out as an excellent writer and international commentator but also an experienced manager, always knowing how to inspire and promote the qualities and abilities of many other excellent writers.

It is known that he has won 7 high prizes in national journalism competitions, including the National Journalism Award A in 1991 for a series of 14 commentaries on the Gulf War. He has published 2 books, which have been warmly received by readers: "Global Breakthrough" (1997) and "Hidden Numbers of the Times" (2004).

What helps people see his management ability most clearly is the period when he held the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper. Looking at the Capital Party newspaper at that time, one can clearly see the mark and soul of an Editor-in-Chief through the issues of national affairs and people's livelihood (the way journalist Ho Quang Loi said when working with the heads of departments to develop the issues) expressed through each column and page of the newspaper.

The issues of the Capital towards the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi at that time were raised in the Hanoi Moi Newspaper and really sparked a movement of action throughout the streets, positively affecting the thinking and actions not only of the cadres and people of the Capital...

Ho Quang Loi was very happy when he was trusted to be elected to the important position of Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda Department and then a delegate of the Hanoi People's Council. Many people expressed regret that a sharp writer did not have the opportunity to "show off" when he was busy with many leadership and macro-management tasks. But then everyone was surprised and excited to pass around his new articles to read. It was an interview about the future of the young generation, in which Ho Quang Loi answered very basically but also very strangely and very newly.

That was the article “Democracy for whom? Rule of law for whom?” I was the one who boldly texted him when I read that article, when I saw again the bold “portrait” of the familiar Ho Quang Loi through each word, the very unique argument of this sharp political writer. He also excitedly informed me: “There are 10 newspapers reintroducing it on this occasion, my colleague!”

How happy it is for him and for the press community when we turn the pages of newspapers and websites and read the familiar, attractive line after each headline with the author's name: Journalist Ho Quang Loi!
