Tomato plant produces two-color fruit

Experts from a British breeding company have introduced the only tomato variety in the world that produces both black and white fruit at the same time.

Last year, Sutton Seeds created a black tomato called Indigo Rose. According to the Mirror, the experts there combined this variety with a white cherry tomato.

"This year we've improved the quality by grafting Indigo Rose with a tomato variety that produces milky white fruit to create a tomato plant that produces two-tone black and white fruit," said a Sutton Seeds spokesperson, adding that this will come as a surprise to many.

Black tomatoes have a more flavorful taste, while white ones are sweet and fruity.

Previously, Canadian researchers created purple tomatoes using genetic engineering techniques. Tomato-potato hybrids have also been introduced in the UK.
