The button plant, also known as wild perilla, little devil needle, flower grass, single needle... is a wild herb, often found on roadsides, rice fields, and vacant lots around houses. The stems and branches have longitudinal grooves and are hairy. The leaves grow opposite, with long petioles, lanceolate leaflets, slightly rounded at the base, short petioles, and large, rough serrated edges. The flower clusters are head-shaped, yellow, and grow singly or in pairs in the leaf axils or at the ends of branches. The fruit is a diamond-shaped, 3-sided, irregular, 1cm long capsule with longitudinal grooves on top.
