Hong Son banyan tree is recognized as a historical and cultural relic tree of Vietnam.
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the Banyan tree in Hamlet 5, Hong Son Commune, Do Luong District was recognized by the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association as a historical and cultural relic tree of Vietnam. The Banyan tree is a testament to the starting point of the land and people of Hong Son,closely associated with the life and spirituality of indigenous communities.

The banyan tree is located at the intersection of the road leading to the center of Hamlet 5 (Hong Son - Do Luong), is 120 - 150 years old, 41 meters high, with a canopy covering more than 350 square meters, and a trunk diameter of 0.8 meters at a point 1.3 meters above the ground. The banyan tree has long been a place where all cultural and spiritual activities of the people take place, a beautiful symbol of natural cultural values and a witness of time coexisting with many generations of people here.

According to the elders of Hong Son commune, during the resistance war against the American invaders, the banyan tree became an air defense observation post and an alarm bell station when there were enemy planes. Military vehicles of our army often stopped and took shelter here. During the period of 1930 - 1931, the banyan tree was a secret meeting and communication place for the Party organizations of Lang Rao - Tan Ky, Trang Kieu - Yen Thanh, Trang Na - Giang Son, Tien Nong - Hong Son in Do Luong district.

In order to preserve the heritage trees of the people, contribute to raising awareness of respect for history, respect for nature and responsibility for environmental protection of the community, on January 20, 2017, the banyan tree in hamlet 5, Hong Son commune (Do Luong) was recognized as a historical and cultural relic tree of Vietnam according to Decision No. 03/2017/QD- CDTLS of the President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association.
