Plumeria flowers have the effect of reducing phlegm, relieving cough, lowering blood pressure, and treating coughs and dysentery... Dried plumeria flowers are more effective than fresh flowers.

Plumeria is also known as Plumeria, Plumeria flower, Mien Chi, Ke Dam Tu..., with the scientific name Plumeria rubra L. var. acutifolia (Poir.) Bailey, belonging to the oleander family (Apocynaceae), is a small tree, can be up to 8-10m high. The leaves grow alternately, are large, oval or oval-shaped, have a short tip, hairless or rarely hairy on the underside. Depending on the species, plumeria flowers range in color from white, yellow to pink, red and bloom in spring and summer, very fragrant.

However, using white petals and yellow center flowers to make medicine is effective.

In folk medicine, all parts of the frangipani tree can be used as medicine, such as the bark, root bark, flowers, flower buds, fresh leaves and sap, but the most used are the flowers.

The whole plant contains a phytobiotic called fulvo plumierin, which inhibits the growth and development of some Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria.

Different parts of the plant have different uses, for example, the bark contains a glucoside called agoniadin and a bitter substance called plumierit. The bark and roots are slightly toxic, bitter in taste, and cool in nature.

Plumeria leaves cure sprains, dislocations, and boils. The latex contains plumeric acid as its main ingredient.

The latex can be used as a purgative (folk medicine uses it as a purgative, laxative, and constipation remedy instead of rhubarb) and to treat edema. People with weakness, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with diarrhea should not use it because the ingredients in the plant have a strong purgative effect and are slightly toxic. Consult a doctor before use.

Plumeria flowers have the effect of eliminating phlegm, relieving coughs, lowering blood pressure, and treating coughs and dysentery. Dried plumeria flowers are more effective than fresh flowers. Flowers should be harvested when they have just bloomed, dried or sun-dried for later use.

For application and reference, below are suggestions for treating diseases with frangipani.

* To treat high blood pressure, take 12 - 20g of dried plumeria flowers, boil them to get the water, drink it instead of tea during the day. Drink daily.

* Sprain: Use a fresh leaf, wash it, crush it, mix it with a little salt and apply it on the swollen area. Use another fresh leaf, heat it over a fire until it wilts and apply it on the outside, then secure it with a bandage or clean cloth. Apply it 1-3 times a day continuously for 1-2 days.

* Pain or boils: Take fresh, crushed leaves and apply.

* Treating swollen and painful teeth: Soak the root bark in alcohol and use it to gargle. This is very effective (be careful not to swallow it because it is poisonous).

* Cough treatment: Use 4-12g of dried frangipani flowers, boil to get the water, drink instead of tea during the day (using white petals and yellow center flowers will be more effective).
