Palm fan tree cures chronic sore throat
Xạ can is a "heat-clearing and detoxifying" medicine that has a bitter taste, cold properties, and is slightly toxic. It enters the two Liver meridians of Foot-Jueyin and Lung meridians of Hand-Taiyin.
The fan palm tree is often grown as an ornamental plant or medicine everywhere in our country. Its scientific name is Belamcanda sinensis (L) DC. It is a herbaceous shrub with long rhizomes that grow close to the ground and is about 0.5m high.
The leaves grow straight and are arranged in two rows on a flat surface like a "fan", the flowers are orange-yellow with red spots. The capsules have horizontal stripes, the seeds are dark green, spherical, and shiny.
According to oriental medicine, the medicinal herb "Xạ can" is the rhizome of the fan palm tree, usually dug up in spring or autumn; cut off the small roots, dry them in the sun or oven, when using, soak in rice water for one or two days to soften; slice thinly, dry them in the sun or oven and use gradually. Xạ can is a "heat-clearing and detoxifying" medicine with a bitter taste, cold properties, slightly toxic, entering the two meridians of the Liver, Foot-Jueyin, and Lung, Hand-Taiyin. It has the effect of clearing fire, detoxifying, dissolving blood, expectorating, sore throat, and phlegm; used to treat sore throat, phlegm in the throat. Use 3-6g per day in decoction form. Or pound 10-20g of fresh root with a few grains of salt, squeeze out the juice, swallow it gradually; apply the residue externally. Xạ can is slightly toxic, so people with weak spleen and stomach, children under 7 years old, and pregnant women should not use it. Below are some medicinal recipes of Xạ can:
-Treatment of chronic pharyngitis, granular pharyngitis:Take a big toe-sized fan root, wash it, roast it (if not roasted it will burn your throat), crush it with about 10g of salt, then put it in a tightly sealed jar. Take it out and hold it in your mouth 3-5 times a day; continuously for 3-5 days; you can chew and swallow both the pulp and the juice.
-Treatment of acute pharyngitis:Xạ can (8-10g), boil in water, divide into several times to drink during the day; when drinking, you can add sugar or honey to make it easier to drink; at the same time, pound the root or leaves and apply to the painful area on the neck.
-Treatment of sore throat:Atractylodes rhizome (4 g), perilla (16 g), honeysuckle, scrophularia, rehmannia each (12 g); mint, eclipta prostrata, mulberry bark each (8 g). Boil and drink one dose per day.
-Treat sore throat, cough with phlegm:Atractylodes Rhizome (6 g), Chinese clematis root (15 g), Ophiopogon japonicus (15 g), Platycodon grandiflorum (6 g). Boil and drink one dose per day.
-Treatment of acute tonsillitis:Musk (6 g); honeysuckle, Eclipta prostrata, dandelion, each (16 g); Scrophularia ningpoensis, Rehmannia glutinosa, and Chinese clematis root each (12 g); Peppermint, Arctium lappa, each (8 g); Platycodon grandiflorum (6 g). Boil and drink one dose per day.
-Treats symptoms of ascites, large abdomen, malaise, and dark skin:Fresh xạ can, crushed, squeezed to get the juice to drink, only when it helps to urinate.
-Treatment of cough, asthma, cold cough:Atractylodes Rhizome (10 g), Pinellia (10 g), Atractylodes Rhizome (10 g), Fritillaria (10 g), Jujube (10 g), Ginger (10 g), Ephedra (7 g), Schisandra (3 g), Asarum (3 g). Boil in water to drink.
