The Indian laurel tree in Pu Mat National Park is recognized as a "Vietnam Heritage Tree"
(Baonghean) -The 70m tall Sa Mu Dau tree, with a trunk diameter of more than 5.5m in the upper Khe Bu stream of Pu Mat National Park (Chau Khe commune, Con Cuong district, Nghe An province), is recognized as a "Vietnam Heritage Tree".
Mr. Tran Xuan Cuong (Deputy Director of Pu Mat National Park) said: after preparing the registration file for "Vietnam Heritage Tree" for the Sa Mu Dau tree in the Park and having been certified by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE): Sa Mu Dau tree in Pu Mat National Park belongs to "Vietnam Heritage Tree" that needs to be preserved and have its gene source developed.

Mr. Tran Xuan Cuong added: This Cunninghamia konishii hayata tree grows at coordinates 0453300 - 2100600, with the scientific name Cunninghamia konishii hayata, belonging to the Taxodiaceae family, the Thai people in Con Cuong call it the May Pec tree.
This cedar tree is over a thousand years old and is still growing normally. It has a sparse canopy, a narrow cone shape, a straight trunk, no buttresses, a height of about 70m, a trunk circumference of 23.7m, and a trunk diameter of 5.5m. However, a part of the trunk near the base has rotted (hollow).
Currently, the Sa Mu Dau tree is being strictly protected by the leaders and staff of Pu Mat National Park. To be able to admire this heritage tree, one must walk and wade through streams for nearly a day.
