Father beats son to death, sentenced to 16 years in prison

On the morning of October 14, the People's Court of Dong Nai province sentenced defendant Nguyen Minh Tam (33 years old, residing in Trang Dai ward, Bien Hoa city) to 16 years in prison for murder.

The victim in the case is the son of defendant Tam - Nguyen Minh Thang, 5 years old.

According to the indictment, defendant Tam lived with Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh (41 years old) as husband and wife, without a marriage certificate and had four children, of which Thang was the second child.

In early September 2015, a conflict arose between Tam and Ms. Chinh when the defendant brought his girlfriend home to live with him. Ms. Chinh left home and moved out to live on her own.

On the afternoon of September 15, 2015, Tam served dinner to her two children, including Thang. Thang kept crying because he missed his mother and refused to eat.

Even though he was scolded, Thang still kept crying so Tam kicked him hard. Only then did Thang stop crying.

Tam continued to scold Thang and asked him to get some milk to drink, then went into the bedroom. Thang went into the bedroom for 5 minutes and then vomited. Tam went in to clean up after Thang, then went out to drink alcohol again.

The next morning, Tam discovered Thang dead in his bedroom. Fearing discovery, Tam dug a hole on the side of his house, put Thang's body in, and buried it.

Nearly 10 days later, Tam's neighbors suspected Thang's mysterious disappearance and reported it to the authorities.

Tam was summoned by the police immediately afterwards and could not hide his actions so he confessed the whole incident.
