Ivanovic scores the only goal to help Chelsea beat Man City |
MAN CITY
Joe Hart (6 points):Unable to keep out Ivanovic's shot, Joe Hart played well all game including blocking Ramires' shot.
Vincent Kompany (4):On a day without strong support from midfield, Kompany played unimpressively but was still very aggressive.
Pablo Zabaleta (4):Despite his best efforts, the Argentine defender had a tiring day due to constant torture from Eden Hazard and could barely get on the attack.
Aleksandar Kolarov (6):Kolarov was the best player in defense with the assist for Toure to finish.
Matija Nastasic (3):A poor day for Nastasic. If the referee had been strict, he would have been sent off after fouling Oscar.
Martin Demichelis (4):Having to play in the defensive midfield position in place of Fernandinho was too much of a task for a slow player like Demichelis.
Jesus Navas (6):Quick and quite sharp, but unfortunately the chances that Navas created could not be successful.
David Silva (4):Not only did Silva miss two good chances, he also played poorly as he failed to perform his role as conductor, creating danger for Chelsea's defense.
Yaya Toure (6):Playing quite prominently in the first minutes thanks to his good ball control and strength, but Toure was overshadowed by the quality midfield of the away team.
Negredo (3):A pretty bad match for the Spanish striker. He almost lost all his scoring touch and played very lethargically.
Edin Dzeko (3):Not much better than his partner, Dzeko failed to capitalize on some of his teammates' chances.
Reserve:
Stevan Jovetic (5):Caused a bit of trouble with a few set pieces, but the player has yet to make a difference against a very disciplined opponent.
CHELSEA
Petr Cech (7):Quickly overcame the pressure to play confidently throughout the 90 minutes. Highlights were the situations of blocking shots from Silva and Jovetic.
Branislav Ivanovic (6):Although he was the only scorer of the match, Ivanovic was not really outstanding in defense.
Gary Cahill (6):Effective in interception situations with many accurate clearances in front of goalkeeper Cech's goal.
John Terry (6):As always, Terry was a safe bet with his composed play.
Cesar Azpilicueta (5):Although Navas passed him many times, Azpilicueta still played with great effort and ensured that Cech's net was not shaken.
David Luiz (7):A true warrior with a powerful and cunning style of play. Luiz and Matic created a shield in front of Chelsea's defense.
Nemanja Matic (7): A pretty impressive night for the Serbian in the defensive midfield position, with his ability to recover the ball and pass with high accuracy.
Ramires (8):It would be hard to ask for a better performance from the Brazilian midfielder. Strong, accurate and extremely alert, Ramires is always the first choice in midfield.
Eden Hazard (9):A “scary” performance from Hazard against the top Premier League stars of Man City. Speedy, technical and extremely confident, Hazard is a constant threat to Chelsea.
Willian (6):Create a good link between the midfield and the strikers. Together with Ramires and Hazard, he tormented the home team's defense with fast and unpredictable moves.
Samuel Eto'o:Working hard and diligently in attack, Eto'o left an impression with a shot that went over the bar.
Substitution:Oscar, Mikel and Demba Ba (no score)
