Rectifying the exploitation, processing and transportation of minerals and forest products

(Baonghean.vn) - On April 16, the People's Committee of Nghe An province held a meeting to discuss measures to rectify the exploitation, processing, transportation of minerals, deforestation, trading and storing of illegal timber in the province. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting. Attending were Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and leaders of relevant departments, branches and localities.

Up to now, in Nghe An province, there are 155 enterprises licensed for exploration, 324 enterprises licensed for exploitation, and 3 enterprises licensed for mineral processing. Besides the licensed enterprises, the illegal exploitation of many types of minerals still occurs, at different levels and in many localities in the province. This is one of the main causes of environmental pollution and loss of social order and security. Although the Party Committees and authorities at all levels have organized many inspections and handling, the problem has not been completely resolved, and there is still a potential risk of recurrence.

In the work of forest protection management, in the first 3 months of 2012, the whole province discovered and handled 436 cases of violations of the law on forest protection and smuggling of forest products. The amount of confiscated forest products included over 900 m3 of round wood, sawn timber of various types, over 500 kg of wild animals. The budget revenue was nearly 8 billion 400 million VND. The forest protection work of local authorities, especially at the commune level, is not good. The performance of some local forest rangers is not high. The situation of resisting people on duty has shown signs of increasing, but the handling of these subjects is still light. Some forest product processing facilities are self-established and have not been licensed by competent authorities.

After listening to the opinions of relevant departments, branches and districts, comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee concluded: In the coming time, relevant levels and branches need to focus on doing a good job of propaganda and establishing hotlines. Functional agencies and districts need to step up inspection, control and serious and timely handling of violations. Timely rectify and prevent activities of exploiting, processing and transporting minerals and the situation of deforestation, trading and storing illegal timber in the province.
